What’s Cooking in San Carlos

By John J. Bartlett

As we wave good bye to Semana Santa and many winter residents and visitors heading back north. We welcome what to most full time residents are the “Salad Days” of spring. Warm days, sunny skies, and rising water temperatures make us start to anticipate more beach time, water sports and Sport Fishing!

For the Guaymas/San Carlos area, 2008 will be a year to remember for its many exciting changes and new projects, services and amenities, let me first start with Guaymas.

The Port/marina project is moving fast anticipating the first Cruise lines coming in later in the year, if you haven’t been downtown lately, do check it out it’s going very well!! The new 120 room Fiesta Inn Hotel will begin construction later this year. Wal-Mart is coming! New Cineplex with 8 Theatres!! Burger King! Of course more chain stores will be coming like a domino effect (several more are looking for locations now). Hats off to the current Guaymas City Administration for a great job in promoting Guaymas/San Carlos!

Now I get to spill some beans on San Carlos. After almost a year of due diligence and planning we are proud to announce that starting later this year “Natural Paradise Resorts”, a Development/Construction Group from Obregon will start construction of “Piedras Pintas” and “Montecito at Piedras Pintas” on Parcel #25 Rancho San Carlos, this is commonly known as Piedras Pintas Beach or Lalos Cove, the peninsula at the Southwestern base of Tetakawi Mountain. This upper end, low density Resort residences community is designed in a classic Mexican Architectural style with state of the art amenities and services, such as Concierge service, Professional Resort management, Health Spa, Fitness Pavilion, Club House, Activity pool, Adult pool, swim up Bar/restaurant, Business center, Event lawn, Fire pit, Putting greens, interior gardens and best of all one of the most magnificently beautiful locations the Sea of Cortes has to offer! The year round “Micro-climate” along with Posada Beach is considered by many to be the best Beach front property San Carlos has to offer. The choices of residences is splendid, 9 Beach front Villas, 12 water front Villas on the peninsula (Montecito at Piedras Pintas). 10 small condo buildings each resembling a big mansion with 75 Resort residences, 30 of which will be ground floor with a Private pool option, 20-3 bedroom Penthouses and 10-4 bedroom Penthouses, with each buildings placement  to assure the best views for world class luxury living.  Construction will begin later in the year with the installation of the infrastructure and an on-site Sales facility on this incredible 18+ acre location before any “Pre-sales” will be offered. If you have been waiting for just the right spot, you don’t have much longer to wait!

Sonesta Gran Posada Resort on beautiful Posada beach is also slated to begin construction soon, this 460 unit, 16 floor, 4 Star “Condo/Hotel” featuring a Convention Center, Health Spa and 16th floor Bar/Restaurant will bring “World Class Lodging” to San Carlos at last, go to www.sonesta.com/SanCarlos/  for more complete information.

Grupo MarinaTerra will also begin construction soon on a 140 room Holiday Inn Express on Beltrones Blvd. just off  Posada Beach, it will also include a Beach Club. This “Business Class Hotel” along with Gran Posada will bring an additional 600 rooms to San Carlos, at last making the future of reasonable daily flight costs a reality. The San Carlos Airpark is also officially open for business for the Private Flyers  edward@grupotucson.com for more info.

All this bean spilling is giving me an appetite, and knowing that the old “San Carlos Grill” is nearing completion of a total renovation transforming it into a classic Mexican Cuisine Restaurant to be known as “Maria Bonita” (another Grupo MarinaTerra project) featuring all those southern dishes so hard to find here and live Mariachi Music to boot makes living here even more of a pleasure every day, my mouth is watering at the prospect! Until next time!
